Over the last ten years I’ve worked hard at building an amazing fictional world, and developed a storyline to unfold it. Please read and enjoy my work, making sure to leave comments or feedback along the way. I’d love to hear from you, too! From from thoughts to suggestions, and everything in between, please feel free to post. After all, that’s why it’s here.
Trying something new with my query letter. Every time I read it, I think of 2 things: 1) Yep, that’s my story, and 2) Yep, that’s a fairly boring introduction.
So I’m going to open with something a little different, some more attention grabbing, something more apt to Yea! instead of Nay! If it works, I’ll trade you my secret for a cup of coffee.
Great video/article about improving your brain. Simply read a book! Although if that were the case, my intelligence would be more than off the charts… 😉
It’s hard to condense your 200,000 word book down to 100 words or less. Very hard. Be great if there were some magical software that did it for you. Instead I had to agonize over selecting a few key words and sentences. But once complete, it was all worth it.
The synopsis was a bit easier, I only had to go from 200,000 words down to 300. Yeah, I’ll be honest, that was hard too. But again, when it was done it was a powerful feeling!
So after careful planning to create a story line that runs through three books, some of the initial feedback on my work recommends making it just a single book, with sequel options open. This will increase my chances of publication without waiting for final editing of books 2 & 3. So, that said, I’m going to tweak the book a bit and make it a standalone, leaving enough open plot lines to roll easily into a 2nd and 3rd book.
Thus, whilst Query Letter and Synopsis are almost done, they are now paused until I re-write the ending. Still making progress!
I’m starting to populate the geography links in the wiki with background information. I plan to add part 4 of the prologue this weekend as well as more wiki content as I find the time…
I’ve added part 3 of the prologue. There’s one more section I’d like to get up, probably in the next day or two. Holding off on the Wiki a little as I see that I need my taxonomy to be rock-solid before I start loading all sorts of content. I’m also spending a little time getting to understand the Categories function of mediawiki, as well as tables and charts.
Also, sorry to say, I had to add the Captcha functionality due to the the large numbers of spam accounts that subscribe. I’ve always been annoyed by Captcha, so tried to pick an easy rig that doesn’t have all those trippy photos and nonsense words.
I’ve added part 2 of the 4-part prologue to the Erth Prologue page. Enjoy!
I’ve got the ErthWiki up and starting to add content. It’ll take awhile to fully flesh it out, but it is growing daily. Took me awhile to get the hang of PHP and Custom Style Sheets, and I’ll be the first to admit it was not as easy as I thought it would be. I have a new-found respect for those who can whip this stuff out in no time.
Anyhoo, check it out!
